Westwood's Catwalk Classics
By: Nigel Robinson

viviene westwood

Not content with conquering the catwalk, designer Vivienne Westwood now has her eyes set on the pop charts.

The grande dame of British fashion is releasing a compilation album of sixteen of her favourite songs. As idiosyncratic as her clothes, the selection includes “Great Balls of Fire” from Mae West, Tchaikovsky’s “Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy”, and the New York Dolls’ “Personality Crisis”.

"My clothes always tell a story,” the designer told www.vogue.com.”It may refer to the past, but it's always projected into this heroic future. And I choose the music accordingly.

"These are some of the pieces that I've relied on over all these years - my classics. They've never failed me."

Catwalk Breakdown will be released by Mercury Records on September 17th during London Fashion Week. There will be an exclusive launch party at Selfridges in Oxford Street.

The last major fashion designer to release a music CD was Jean Paul Gaultier with Aow Tou Dou Zat in 1989.
