Sir Ian McKellen and Boy George to attend benefit for gay homeless

Sir Ian McKellen and Boy George are to attend a fundraising event on Sunday evening in aid of the Albert Kennedy Trust (AKT), the voluntary organisation that helps young LGBT people who are homeless, living in a hostile environment or in housing crisis.

The event will mark the 20th anniversary of the AKT, and has been organised in collaboration with social networking site Jake and personal assistant services provider Quintessentially. Sir Ian will host, and Boy George and Fat Tony will DJ at the private club St Barnabas, in Soho. There will be an auction (which will include a portrait in oils of Sir Ian himself) conducted by TV presenter and actor Anthony Crank, and it is rumoured that Kate Moss and Sadie Frost will also attend.

Jonathan Penny, fundraising and communications officer for the AKT, said: "This is a one-off opportunity to party in the company of celebrities at an exclusive lounge venue and help raise funds for young gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered people who are experiencing homelessness, or living in a hostile environment.

"The burden on Albert Kennedy Trust is increasing, and our London and Manchester offices receive more calls from distraught young people than ever before. Guests attending this event will be helping our network of carers and mentors provide safe housing and a supportive environment for young people who otherwise would be in grave danger."
