Robinson: Stonewall's Bigot of the Year

MP who called homosexuality an abomination to step down

Iris Robinson, the Northern Irish MP for Stangford, has cited depression and mental health problems as her reasons for quitting at the next election.

Dubbed the “Wicked Witch of the North”, and voted Stonewall’s Bigot of the Year in 2008, Robinson made headlines when she declared that homosexuality was an abomination.
She made the statement a day after a gay man was killed in a homophobic attack.
“Homosexuality, like all sin, is abomination,” Robinson has said.
She is also on record as saying that homosexuality is as bad as child abuse.
Talking to the Belfast Telegraph, she said:
“What I say I base on Biblical pronouncements, based on God’s word. I am amazed that people are surprised when I quote from scriptures. I cannot think of anything more sickening than a child being abused.
“It is comparable to the act of homosexuality. I think they are all comparable. I feel totally repulsed by both.”
