BBC anchor Jane Hill outs herself
Jane Hill, one of the main presenters on the BBC News channel, has revealed that she is gay.
In an interview in Ariel, the corporation's in-house magazine, Hill spoke about sharing a house in north London with her partner Sara and their dog, Mavis.
Hill, 40, has reportedly been with Sara, a camera operator, for a year, but according to the Daily Mail's Richard Kay she was involved with Strictly Come Dancing winner Chris Hollins "before discovering Sapphic contentment".
A colleague said: "Everyone has known for years that Jane is gay. She hasn't made a secret of it at the BBC and although she has had other girlfriends over the years, this one seems to be the one."
Hill was 16 when she began her career, working in BBC local radio before taking a politics degree at London University. After completing the corporation's journalism course she worked as a producer at Five Live and then moved over to TV with the launch of the News channel in 1997, and now broadcasts to a daytime, weekday audience alongside Matthew Amroliwala. She lists her interests as the theatre, food, wine, going to the gym and The Archers.
