Playgirl wants Iris Robinson's lover to bare all
Playgirl magazine wants disgraced homophobe politician Iris Robinson's 21-year-old ex-boyfriend Kirk McCambley to be its nude centrefold for March.
"He's Irish, he's good looking and the toppling of a political dynasty is just great," Daniel Nardicio, Playgirl's director of marketing told the Belfast Telegraph.
The magazine was relaunched last December with a naked shoot of Levi Johnston, the father of Sarah Palin's grandchild, and Nardicio claims it helped make him a star in the US.
"Kirk McCambley would be a great follow up to that," he said. "It's a fantastic story, it's interesting and he is very attractive. He fits into what we are trying to do with Playgirl."
Earlier this month, gay lifestyle magazine Attitude revealed that it was trying to get it touch with McCambley with an offer to put him on the cover of a future issue.
Playgirl was launched in 1973 as a supposedly feminist counter to men's titles such as Playboy and Penthouse, but from the beginning it was popular with gay men. Judy Cole, editor-in-chief until 1997, has written that its gay readership made up 40% of sales, with even more in New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco.
Iris Robinson has called homosexuality an "abomination".
Iris Robinson is currently receiving "acute psychiatric care" in a Belfast hospital and has yet to speak publicly about her affair with McCambley.
Speculation is mounting that Oprah Winfrey wants to interview the ex-MP about the sex, money and politics scandal that ruined her and may yet bring down her husband, Northern Ireland's First Minister Peter Robinson.
