London Lesbian and Gay Film Festival

Europe's largest lesbian and gay film festival opens in London on March 17

The 24th BFI London Lesbian and Gay Film Festival (LLGFF), Europe's largest, festival of gay films has announced its lineup of 75 feature- length films and documentaries, as well as shorts and archive material, to be shown over two weeks from March 17 - 31.

Now attracting around 250,000 visitors as well as hundreds of filmmakers, cast and crew from around the world, the LLGFF will present award-winning titles from the leading festivals, including Berlin, Cannes and Toronto, alongside some significant world premieres, at BFI Southbank and selected venues around the city.

It opens with the world premiere of the BBC's The Secret Diaries of Miss Anne Lister, the true story of the pioneering 19th century lesbian diarist and Yorkshire landowner, industrialist and traveller, and closes with Children of God, Kareem J Mortimer's first feature, a love story set against the backdrop of violent homophobia and social unease in the Bahamas.

Other standout gay films are Xavier Dolan's celebrated I Killed My Mother and three that have won awards at other festivals: Nicolo Donatto's Brotherhood, Roberto Caston's Ander and Leanne Pooley's documentary Topp Twins: Untouchable Girls.

In total the programme runs to around 200 features, documentaries and shorts, as well as talks and discussions courtesy of some of the leading figures in the industry at the renowned London Lesbian and Gay Film Festival Salons.
