Boyzone's Ronan Keating

Ronan Keating in surprise appearance at Student Pride

Boyzone's Ronan Keating made a surprise appearance at this year's National Student Pride, which spanned two days of spectacular celebration in Brighton over the weekend and was the biggest so far.

Live performances by Erik Hassle, Girls Can't Catch and Chew Lips at an evening event at the seafront's Coalition nightclub were the lead-up to Keating's stage appearance in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Opened on March 6 by the mayor of Brighton and Hove reading messages of support from prime minister Gordon Brown, leader of the opposition David Cameron and Lib Dem leader Nick Clegg, National Student Pride was the culmination of nearly ten months of planning by student volunteers and a small advisory panel.

The main day's highlights included a hugely successful Women's Room (organised by Brighton Pride's Women's Tent and in association with DIVA magazine), film screenings sponsored by TLA Releasing, comedy, cabaret and two discussion panels featuring Green party leader Caroline Lucas, civil rights activist Peter Tatchell, shadow minister Nick Herbert and local Labour MP Des Turner.
