Anna Arrowsmith

Porn director selected as Lib Dem candidate

The Liberal Democrats have selected a producer and director of porn films as their parliamentary candidate for Gravesham in Kent.

Anna Arrowsmith, 38, is the managing director of Easy on the Eye Productions and has made more than 300 films under the pseudonym Anna Span

These have included Where's the Rent Boys?, Eat Me/Keep Me, Hoxton Honey and Hand of the Law.

She was named best director in the 2008 and 2009 UK Adult Film and TV Awards.

Arrowsmith said she had been spurred to run by the under-representation of women in parliament and that her background would be an asset to her work as an MP.

But she told The Times: "I am not campaigning on behalf of my old industry. I am campaigning on behalf of the people in the Gravesham area.

"When people get to see me, they will realise that I am used to project managing and that I am driven to achieve change rather than just promising it."

A spokesman for Liberal Democrat leader Nick Clegg said yesterday: "Mrs Arrowsmith's job isn't everybody's cup of tea, but it is not illegal and we welcome and respect people form different backgrounds."

However, Ann Widdecome, the Tory MP for Maidstone and the Weald, said: "It is entirely inappropriate that someone involved in that sort of business should be a candidate, but it is up to the Liberal Democrats.

“Ultimately, it is up to the electorate to pass judgement."

The Conservatives narrowly won the Gravesham seat in the 2005 general election with a majority of 654 over Labour.

The Liberal Democrats were in third place with almost 11% of the vote.
