Gay News: Comic will not shy away from Ellen's sexuality
By: Nigel Robinson

Ellen DeGeneres on the cover of her comic book

Ellen DeGeneres becomes a comic-book hero

Lesbian icon Ellen DeGeneres is the star of her own comic book.

Her life story is the focus of an issue of the Female Force series, whose previous editions have featured biographies of Oprah Winfrey, Hilary Clinton, JK Rowling and Princess Diana.

The comic follows DeGeneres’ career from her youth in Louisiana, through the highs and the lows of her work on the stand-up circuit and in her own sit com, and finally to her present career as an Emmy- winning TV talk show host.

The comic also includes the ground-breaking episode of her TV series in which her character came out as lesbian.

It also deals with DeGeneres’ real life as an openly gay woman and tireless supporter of gay rights.

The comic book’s writer, Sandra Ruckdeschel, said of DeGeneres’ sexuality:

“It is part of who she is and any telling of her story without acknowledging the importance she places on her identity would be disrespectful to her accomplishments.”

Female Force: Ellen DeGeneres is published by Bluewater Productions and is available now from Amazon and specialist retailers.
