Gay news: 'There is a relation between homosexuality and paedophilia,' says Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone
By: John Howard

Cardinal Bertone

Catholic Church decides to blame its crimes on homosexuality. Again.

In yet another attempt to divert culpability for the heinous actions of its members, a senior member of the Catholic Church has passed the baton of blame over to the gays. Again.

Naturally devoid of proof and/or rational, the Vatican’s second-highest authority says the paedophilia scandals currently undermining any thread of integrity the Roman Catholic Church has left, are all down to homosexuality. Even though there are cases which involve priests having sex with young girls.

"Many psychologists and psychiatrists have demonstrated that there is no relation between celibacy and paedophilia,” said Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone, the Vatican’s secretary of state, speaking in Chile yesterday. “But many others have demonstrated, I have been told recently, that there is a relation between homosexuality and paedophilia. That is true. That is the problem."

Presumably if Cardinal Bertone says “that is true” often enough, it will be.

Chile’s gay rights advocates have reacted angrily.

"Neither Bertone nor the Vatican has the moral authority to give lessons on sexuality," said Rolando Jimenez, president of the Movement for Homosexual Integration and Liberation in Chile.

"This is a perverse strategy by the Vatican to shirk its own ethical and legal responsibility by making a spurious and disgusting connection.”

One girl, identified only as Paula, gave an interview to Chilean newspaper La Nacion, in which she described the abuse she suffered at the hands of Father Jose Andres Aguirre.

"I thought it wasn't that bad to have sex with him because when I told priests about it at confession they just told me to pray and that was it. They knew, and some of them guessed that it was Father Tato. But everyone looked the other way. No one corrected or helped me."
