Ellen DeGeneres is America's 'most influential gay person'
Television presenter Ellen DeGeneres heads the latest ranking of America's "richest, most influential, most feared gays and lesbians".
DeGeneres displaced Barney Frank, Washington's highest-ranking gay politician (now No 2 in the list), in Out magazine's
2010 Power 50.
Also in the top five were news anchor Anderson Cooper, radio personality and political commentator Rachel Maddow and American Idol discovery Adam Lambert.
The magazine said of 12-time Emmy winner DeGeneres: "A passionate advocate for marriage equality, an avid opponent of 'don't ask, don't tell,' and staunch defender of animal rights, DeGeneres's enormous platform is many an American's gain."
Others to see their stock rise included celebrity blogger Perez Hilton, menswear designer Thom Browne, equality campaigner Dan Choi and A Single Man director Tom Ford.
