Asked about the recently approved gay marriage law in Portugal, which comes into law on 7 June, the Real Madrid player said that everyone should have equal rights.
“As a Portuguese man, I try to keep myself informed about what is happening in my country,” he told Publico magazine.
“I know the law has been passed and…we must respect the choice of each other because all citizens must have exactly the same rights and responsibilities.”
The 26-year-old is forward for Spanish team Real Madrid, and is captain of the Portuguese team in the forthcoming World Cup.
He is also the face and body of Emporio Armani underwear.
