Gay News: Members of the Labour Party’s LGBT Rights group were allegedly refused service in a pub on Saturday night.
By: Nigel Robinson

Greencoat Boy Pub is near Parliament

Labour gay group "refused drinks" in Westminster pub.

The group of about forty people were meeting in the Greencoat Boy pub in Westminster after their AGM.

The pub’s duty manager is alleged to have refused the group service, taking objection to a banner which read: “Only Labour can delivery equality.”

He is also alleged to have said that if he had known that the group were gay then he would have refused their booking.

The matter has been referred to the Metropolitan Police.

In a statement, pub owners Punch Taverns acknowledged that the group had been denied service and said that they would investigate the matter thoroughly and report back to the Labour LGBT group.

They also said that this was an isolated incident and not representative of the chain’s commitment to diversity.

Members of the group tweeted about the incident on social networking site Twitter and it quickly became one of the biggest trends on the day

Messages of support were received from Sarah Brown, the wife of Gordon Brown, and former deputy Prime Minister John Prescott, who tweeted:

"40 years ago we campaigned against a Hull pub that banned 'women & queers'. This is disgraceful."
