Gay TV News: Dales soap Emmerdale beats Corrie and EastEnders for best gay storyline.
By: Nigel Robinson

Emmerdale - number one gay plot

Emmerdale has top gay storyline

In a poll conducted by gay rights group Stonewall the coming out of Emmerdale’s Aaron Livesy (Danny Miller) has been voted the best gay soap storyline of the year.

Aaron’s struggle to come to terms with his sexuality won the approval of 44 per cent of the voters.

EastEnders came second with 43 per cent voting for the affair between Christian Clarke (John Partridge) and Muslin Syed Masood (Marc Elliot).

Coronation Street’s story of the growing romance between teenagers Sophie Webster (Brooke Vincent) and Sian Powers (Sacha Parkinson) came third with only 13 per cent.

Emmerdale producer Gavin Blyth said:

“From the outset, we always wanted to be very truthful and honest in the story of Aaron's sexuality and how he as an individual attempted to deny himself.

“While we obviously recognise this doesn't mirror the journey of every man and woman, we were aware that it would resonate with very many.

"The enormous positive feedback we have received has proved it to be the case and to be recognised by Stonewall in this way is a huge honour to all involved."
