The parade itself attracted 3,000 participants including drag queens, samba dancers and members of the police and fire services, who marched from St George’s Plateau to Dale Street in the heart of the city’s vibrant gay quarter.
The crowds were entertained on the main stage by former Coronation Street star Adam Rickitt, and the celebrations carried on late into the night in the city’s gay bars and clubs.
“Chill Out Sunday” saw a series of arts events in the city’s museums including the popular Hello Sailor! exhibition on gay life in the Merchant Navy at the Merseyside Maritime Museum.
Pride spokesman John Bridge proclaimed the first Liverpool Pride a great success, and told the Liverpool Daily Post:
“We want to highlight how proud the Liverpool Pride organisers are of the city.
“It’s the first official Pride festival and we can put all the logistics in place and put the acts together, but we can’t create an atmosphere.
“So it’s a tribute to the people of Liverpool that the atmosphere was so fantastic.”
