Mexico Court upholds adoption rights for gays
Mexico’s Supreme Court said that there was no evidence that gay people are worse parents than heterosexual couples.
Judge Arturo Zaldivar said that it also could not be demonstrated that being raised by gay parents harms a child, nor that being raised by gay parents would turn that child gay.
Another judge, Margarita Luna Ramos, stressed that adoption issue was not one of “gender” but of “people”.
The ruling follows an earlier ruling that same-sex marriage was not unconstitutional and currently only applies to Mexico City.
Judges will now have to decide whether the law should apply to the rest of the country.
