Gay News: Thousands of people have marched in Dublin to demand equal marriage rights for same-sex couples.

Partnership Bill does not allow marriage

Dubliners demand gay marriage

Ireland’s Civil Partnership Bill became law in July, but does not allow gay people to marry, and denies children of same-sex couples the rights accorded to children of heterosexual parents.

The March for Marriage was organised by gay rights group LGBT Noise, whose spokesman, Max Krzyzanowski, said:

“We have always sought the opening of the institution of civil marriage so that same-sex couples can raise children with the same protections as their straight brothers and sisters.”

He went on to say that 300 rights enjoyed by heterosexual married couples are missing from the civil partnership legislation, thereby making LGBT people second-class citizens.

“This is unacceptable in 2010 when country after country around the world is opening the institution of civil marriage to their gay citizens,” he said.
