Gay News: Justice Minister Crispin Blunt has come out as gay

Crispin Blunt

Government minister comes out

The 50-year-old Under-Secretary of State for Justice in the coalition government announced on Friday 27 August that he has left his wife and is “coming to terms with being gay”.
Blunt has been married to his wife, Victoria, for twenty years and they have two teenage children.
“He decided to come to terms with his homosexuality and explained the position to his family,” his office said. “The consequence is this separation.
“There is no third party involvement but this is difficult for his immediate and wider family and he hopes for understanding and support for them.
The family do not wish to make any further public comment and hope that their privacy will be respected as they deal with these difficult private issues.”
The news came after rumours in Westminster that a Cabinet MP is due to be outed over the weekend, but friends of Blunt have insisted that the minister has come out willingly.
Blunt is a former army officer and the MP for Reigate. His constituency association has said that his coming out would not affect his position.
In gay rights organisation Stonewall’s league table of MPs’ voting records on gay equality issues, Blunt scored a low 36 per cent.
