Robinson hit the headlines in 2008 when she declared that homosexuality was an “abomination” which made her “nauseous”.
She later went on to compare homosexuality with child abuse and said, “There can be no viler act, apart from homosexuality and sodomy, than sexually abusing innocent children.”
Robinson later retired from politics after an affair with a teenager forty-one years her junior.
The play, God’s Country, will open in Belfast later this month.
It’s author, Colin Bell, told the Guardian that his play was not a “rant” against Iris Robinson.
“It is an examination of how other politicians in Northern Ireland are dealing with homosexuality,” he told the newspaper.
“It also explores how the Democratic Unionist Part has changed in the wake of Irisgate.”
