Pink to get gay honour
8 October 2010
The singer will receive the special Ally for Equality Award at the annual gala dinner of the Human Rights Campaign.
The award will be presented by Bette Midler on 9 October at the dinner in Washington DC.
The Human Rights Campaign is the world’s largest LGBT civil rights organisation, and Pink has long been an outspoken supporter of gay rights.
The video for her latest single “Raise Your Glass” depicts same-sex couples attending a gay commitment ceremony, and was inspired by a lesbian friend’s similar ceremony.
The HRC will also present prizes to others who have taken a stand for gay equality.
Gay film-maker, Lee Daniels, will receive the Visibility Award for his film Precious: Based on the novel PUSH by Sapphire, and Emmy Award-winning TV series Modern Family, which features a gay couple, will take the National Arts & Culture Award
HRC President Joe Solmonese said: “This has been a remarkable year in the fight for LGBT equality, but there is much work left to be done.
“The National Dinner will highlight our accomplishments and inspire us to keep up the fight until we have achieved full equality under the law.”
