Priscilla Queen of the Desert: The Musical is based on the Academy Award winning film The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert, and follows three drag queens driving their bus across Australia.
The musical is the most successful Australian musical of all time and has played in Sydney, Melbourne and New Zealand, and is currently in its second sell-out year in London’s West End.
The North American version has opened in Toronto, and will transfer to Broadway in March next year.
Producer Bette Midler said of the show: “A new star on Broadway and her name is PRISCILLA! So much fun, it’s practically illegal! In fact, it is illegal in four states!”
Bette Midler made her Broadway debut in 1966 Fiddler on the Roof, and began her solo career in the 70s singing in the all-male Continental Baths where she was accompanied on the piano by Barry Manilow.
She has recently completed a two-year residency, The Showgirl Must Go On, at Caesar’s Palace, Las Vegas.
Priscilla, Queen of the Desert: The Musical previews at Broadway’s Palace Theatre in New York on 28 February and opens 20 March 2011
