With the theme “Uniting all communities against all forms of Hate Crime through hope and remembrance”, the vigil will place on Saturday 23 October between 7pm and 9pm. There will be a two-minute silence at 8pm.
Last year up to 10,000 people assembled in Trafalgar Square to say that hate crime was not acceptable, with more people joining on-line around the world.
The line-up of speakers and music will include Stuart Milk, the nephew of Harvey Milk, the gay rights activist who was murdered in 1978 and posthumously granted the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2009; Stephen Brookes MBE from the Disability Hate Crime network; and Deputy Mayor of London Richard Barnes.
Other cities will be joining in the Vigil, including Vancouver in Canada which is proclaiming a Day against Hate Crime. In the UK, large events are also being organised in Brighton and Norwich.
The Vigil will also be promoting the Stop Hate UK helpline number of 0800 138 1625, which has recently been commissioned in Westminster.
