Gay News: President Barack Obama has recorded a special message for gay teenagers who are being bullied for being gay
By: Nigel Robinson

Obama invokes own childhood

Obama tells gay teenagers "it will get better"

 22 October 2010

The video is part of the It Gets Better project which features YouTube videos from celebrities and everyday people, reassuring gay teenagers who are being bullied that life does get better.

The campaign follows a recent spate of gay teenage suicides in the US.

Celebrities who have contributed to the project so far include Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Scissor Sisters front man Jake Shears, Gloria Estefan, and Chris Colfer from hit show Glee.

In his video the President recalls his own childhood and says he knows what it feels like to “grow up feeling that sometimes you don’t belong.”

He goes on to say: “When you’re teased or bullied it can seem like somehow you brought it on yourself… With time you’re going to see that your differences are a source of pride, a source of strength.”
