Florent Malouda
Chelsea player speaks out against homophobia
28 October 2010
In an interview published by Chelsea, the footballer said that racism and homophobia in the sport were a “problem of knowledge”
“People are scared of something they do not know,” he said, speaking of racism. “Now you have a lot of information: the internet, satellite television, many sources of information, so there is no excuse you say you do not know.
“[Homophobia] is the same,” he continued. “Before people couldn’t even speak about [homosexuality] like they were rejecting it and saying it is not existing.
“People who do it are wrong, hiding behind religion to explain their behaviour against gays, but you have to accept people as they are, and once you understand that, you understand our differences are our strengths.”
