Bombs believed to come from Al Qaeda

Gay-friendly synagogue targeted in Yemeni attack

 1 November 2010

However, it is likely that the bomb, which was one of several found in the hold of a US-bound cargo plane at East Midlands airport, was aimed not at the gay community but at the Jewish community.

Lilli Kornblum, Co-President of the Congregation Or Chadash, which leases space in the Emmanuel Congregation’s synagogue in Chicago, said:

“We have a highly visible, lesbian, gay, transgender and bisexual community and at first we thought that might have attracted attention.

“But as we learned that more packages were sent, we now don’t take it personally.

“Well, we are taking it personally as human beings and as Jews but it seems we were randomly selected from any number of Jewish organisations in Chicago.”

The bombs are believed to be the work of the Yemen-based Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula
