"Gay" vultures split up

15 November 2010

The vultures, Guido and Detlef, have spent the past few together building a nest, at the Allwetter zoo in Münster.

“They stayed closely together and protected their nest from other vultures,” said a spokesman from the zoo, before adding: “In the absence of a suitable female, they settled for the next best thing – another male.”

Now they have been separated and Detlef has been paired off with a female vulture from a Czech zoo, in the hope that they will produce chicks.
