Wedding was conducted via Skype

Gay couple gets spliced by Skype

 15 November 2010

Mark Reed wanted to marry Dante Walkup, his partner of ten years, in their home town of Dallas, in the company of their friends and family.
However gay marriage is illegal in Texas.
To get around the law, Reed and Walkup, registered for a licence in Washington DC – where same-sex marriages are legal.
On their return home, the marriage was conducted in Dallas, via a Skype link, by Sheila Alexander-Reid who was in Washington.
“It was very important that all of our family came,” Reed said. “If we had to go to DC there’s no way we could have had the people there who we wanted to be there.”
There are no specific laws forbidding e-marriages, but the couple is now working to establish the right to e-marriages in law.
