Cardinal says gays are a threat to freedom
18 November 2010
In his memoirs, which are due to be published on Thursday, Cardinal Giacomo Biffi, the former archbishop of Bologna, has warned fellow Christians of a “new form of persecution” coming from gay rights activists.
According to the cardinal, “the ideology of homosexuality – as often happened to ideologies when they became aggressive and politically victorious – becomes a threat to our legitimate freedom of thought.
“Those who don’t share [the ideology] risk being condemned to a sort of cultural and social marginalisation."
He goes on to say that the attack on the freedom to judge others starts with language
“Those who don’t resign themselves to accept ‘homophilia] (that is to say, a favorable opinion of homosexual relationships) are accused of homophobia…
“Is it permitted today to be faithful disciples of Christ’s teachings? Or must we now prepare for a new kind of persecution, carried out by gay activists and their ideological accomplices, and also by those whose duty should be to defend the intellectual liberty of everyone, including Christians?”
