Lawyers for movie star John Travolta are demanding “an unequivocal and prominent retraction of the false and defamatory statements” made on the Gawker gossip website.

The website has published claims by author Robert Randolph that Travolta frequents men’s spas in Los Angeles, where he engages in sexual activity with other men,

This is in spite of the fact that Travolta has been married for twenty years to actress Kelly Preston, who has just given birth to their third child.

In a five-page letter to the website demanding the retraction of the article, Travolta’s lawyer describes the claims as “blatant, defamatory lies” from a “patently unreliable source”.

He also says that the claims “go back fifteen years, yet inexplicably [Randolph] has waited till now to peddle these phony tall tales,” and further points out that the author of the allegations has himself admitted that he has previously suffered brain damage, allegedy incurred at the LA spa where he allegedly saw Travolta.

He also queried the idea that a star as famous as Travolta would repeatedly commit adultery in public and in front of strangers, and that Randolph would be there as a witness every time
