Gay News: A controversial app condemning gay marriage has been removed from Apple's online store
By: Nigel Robinson

App quizzed users on gay marriage

"Anti-gay" iPhone app removed

The Manhattan Declaration app took the form of a short quiz where the user was asked their opinion on subjects such as same-sex marriage and abortion.

If the user indicated they supported those institutions, they would be informed that they had given the incorrect answer.

One of the app’s questions was: “Do you believe in the sanctity of marriage between a man and a woman?”

Those who disagreed were told:  “Because the sanctity of human life, the dignity of marriage as a union of husband and wife and the freedom of conscience and religion are foundational principles of justice and the common good, we are compelled by our Christian faith to speak and act in their defence.”

The app has vanished from Apple’s iPhone store, following an online petition calling on Apple to remove the app.

“Applications that support hate and division have no place in the iTunes store,” wrote the authors of the petition.

In 2008, Apple donated $100,000 in the campaign against the ban on gay marriage in the USA.
