Lady GaGa: the new "I Will Survive"
Lady GaGa has written the new "I Will Survive"
17 December 2010
Speaking of the title track of Lady GaGa’s forthcoming album Born This Way, Elton John told Entertainment Weekly:
“’Born This Way’ will completely get rid of Gloria Gaynor’s ‘I Will Survive’. This is the new ‘I Will Survive’. That was the gay anthem. This is the new gay anthem. Actually it’s not a gay anthem – it can apply to anybody.”
‘I Will Survive’ by Gloria Gaynor was first released in 1978 and rapidly became a massive disco hit and enduring gay anthem. It regularly tops the list of greatest dance records and greatest gay songs of all time.
John went on to say that he thought that Born This Way was “f***ing amazing”, and revealed that he would like to record a duet with Lady GaGa.
“She and I come from exactly the same place,” he said. “She’s kind of like the bastard daughter of Elton John… There’s a chance we might do one track with her, but she’s so busy and I’m so busy we can never get together!”
In characteristically modest mode, Lady GaGa recently told fans at a concert in Gdansk, Poland, that her new album was going to be “the greatest album of this decade”.
Born This Way by Lady GaGa will be released in early 2011
