Gay TV News: Coronation Street will see its first gay wedding in the New Year

Sean Tully played by Antony Cotton
Civil partnership for Corrie
29 December 2010
Gay barman Sean Tully, played by Antony Cotton, will be reunited with his former boyfriend, Marcus Dent (actor Charlie Condu) in the spring.
Marcus will return after an absence of two and half years when he left Weatherfield for London, tiring of Sean’s jealousy.
According to sources, Marcus is eager to resume his romance with Sean.
“But having hurt him once, Sean is apprehensive until Marcus offers him commitment, with the future storyline leading to Corrie’s first same-sex marriage.”
Their civil partnership is the latest in a series of gay storylines for Coronation Street. In 2010, characters Sophie Webster (Brooke Vincent) and Sian Powers (Sacha Parkinson) embarked on the Street’s first lesbian relationship.
Coronation Street’s gay producer Phil Collinson has stated that he sees the long-running soap as the ideal platform for bringing gay issues to a wider public.
