Christian couple to appeal B&B ruling
Peter and Hazelmary Bull were judged to have acted illegally when they refused civil partners Martyn Hall and Steven Preddy a room at their hotel in Cornwall in 2008, and were ordered to pay damages of £1,800 to each of the men.
Now the couple are to appeal against the decision.
Their appeal will be supported by the Christian Institute who funded their defence and are believed to have contributed £45,000 so far towards their legal fees.
Mike Judge, of the Christian Institute, told ITV’s West Country Tonight: “Obviously there are some finally balanced legal issues in this case and I think it is important our higher courts have got an opportunity to look at this issue.
“A lot of Christians are looking at this case with great concern and they do believe their beliefs have been squeezed from public life.”
They Halls claimed that they refused the couple a room not because of their sexual orientation, but because they only allowed married couples in double-bedded accommodation.
The appeal is expected to be heard in the autumn.
