Gay Showbiz News: Doctor Who star Matt Smith will not be seen fully naked in the forthcoming bio-pic of gay author Christopher Isherwood

Matt Smith

Doctor Who banned from nude scenes

Christopher and His Kind follows the life of Isherwood in the decadent Berlin of the 1930s and his affairs with rent boys and “rough trade”.

The one-off drama features scenes of gay sex, sadomasochism, and male nudity – but the BBC has vetoed Matt Smith baring all on screen.

A BBC source told the Sun newspaper: “Doctor Who is a firm family favourite so we thought it would be better if we didn’t show Matt’s behind in the new drama.”

Of his role as the gay author, for whom famously “Berlin meant boys”, Smith is reported as saying: “You’ve just got to commit to it, gung-ho.

“It’s different from when you’re doing nude scenes with a boy than with a girl, as you can imagine.

“Having to kiss boys and finally understanding the nature of stubble rash was interesting.”

Christopher and his Kind starring Matt Smith is on BBC2 on 19 March

The new series of Doctor Who returns to BBC1 on 23 April
