Critics of Corrie lesbian plot "ignorant"
“I think it’s selfish, because things are evolving with the times,” she told the Press Association about her character’s lesbian relationship with Sian Powers (actress Sacha Parkinson). “Nowadays there’s nothing wrong with being gay, so why not have it on screen?”
“Our viewers go from 70-year-olds to 10-year-olds so it’s hard to do a storyline that fits everybody’s views,” she continued and suggested that people should switch off if the storyline offended them.
She added that the actresses had received most of their positive feedback from gay people.
“I don’t think we’ve had any negative feedback from gay people,” she said. “It’s been older people saying Coronation Street shouldn’t have this storyline but I just think that’s ignorant if I’m honest.”
