Gay News: Kevin Keller, who became the first gay character in the Archie comic books, is to get his own series

Kevin Keller
Gay character to get his own comic

The character has proved a huge hit since he debuted last year in issue 202 of Veronica, one of the popular series of comics based on Archie and the staff and students of Riverdale High.
The issue was so popular that it sold out and Archie Comics had to bring out a reprint for the first time in its history.
Kevin will star in his own four-part comic mini-series in June, and storylines will focus on Kevin’s relationships with his friends, and the strong bond he has with his father.
Author and illustrator Dan Parent told the San Francisco Chronicle that the gay character of Kevin was important to show that everybody is welcome in the fictional all-American town of Riverdale.
“We’ll see Kevin getting involved at Riverdale High, his ongoing friendship with Veronica and the rest of the gang and more background on who Kevin is and how he came to be,” he told the newspaper.
The comics will also cover Kevin’s coming out. Parent said: “While the story may be somewhat serious in places it’s still entertaining and funny, since those are always a staple of a good Archie story.”
