Actor John Christian who plays Christian has been filmed proposing to Syed, actor Marc Elliott. The scene will be aired on BBC1 next month.
If Syed gets a divorce from his wife Amira, it is thought that Albert Square’s first civil partnership will take place this summer.
According to the Daily Mirror the popular soap’s writers are also considering a storyline which will involve the couple having a baby via a surrogate.
“If everything goes ahead, Christian and Syed will be the biggest stars on the soap,” an EastEnders source told the newspaper.
The couple’s civil partnership will follow Coronation Street’s gay wedding between characters Sean Tully (actor Antony Cotton) and Marcus Dent (Charlie Condou) which will take place at the end of the month.
