“Love one another – enough of homophobia!” was the theme of the parade which saw four million people party their way down the Avenida Paulista.
The parade coincided with the approval of same-sex marriages in New York State.
In May the Brazilian court ruled that same-sex partnerships had equal status as marriage between a man and woman.
Although Brazil has a relatively relaxed attitude towards homosexuality, hundreds of gay men are still killed every year in homophobic attacks.
