The Marriage Equality Act, which was passed on 24 June, and will come into effect on 24 July, makes New York State the seventh American state to allow same-sex marriage.
A page on the city’s tourist website – NYC - I DO – is already informing couples of the rules on getting married in the state, as well as promoting wedding venues in the city.
It has been estimated that the new act could bring in half a billion dollars in revenue, as gay couples rush to the Big Apple to tie the knot.
Mayor Andrew Bloomberg, who signed the act into law, said: “We will be ready. Will there be lines the first day? Yes. Get ready for it. Get used to it. It’s a lot better than no lines.”
