The American Family Association has called for a consumer boycott of McDonald's

"The AFA has a track record of boycotting companies on grounds of 'promoting the homosexual agenda'"

The American Family Association is asking for a worldwide consumer boycott of McDonald's after the fast food chain vowed to continue supporting gay staff.

Prompted by the multi-national company’s support for last years San Francisco Pride and the fact that Vice President of Communications at McDonalds Richard Ellis was recently initiated into the board of directors of the National Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce (NGLCC), the AFA have stated that “McDonald's has chosen … to give the full weight of their corporation to promoting the homosexual agenda, including homosexual marriage.”

McDonald's Global Chief Diversity Officer, Pat Harris stated “We treat our employees and our customers with respect and dignity, regardless of their ethnicity, religious beliefs, sexual orientation or other factors.”

The staunchly anti-gay AFA describes itself as “a Christian organisation promoting the biblical ethic of decency in American society with primary emphasis on TV and other media” and claims that the Christian bible "declares that homosexuality is unnatural and sinful."

They have a track record of boycotting companies on grounds of “promoting the homosexual agenda”. These include Ford for advertising in gay magazines, donating to gay-rights organizations, and sponsoring gay pride celebrations, IKEA for featuring gay families in adverts and the Walt Disney Company for giving benefits to same-sex employees in domestic partnerships.

Most recently the organisation launched a campaign against the Heinz Deli Mayo advert that featured two men kissing, despite it only being screened in the UK. The advert was eventually pulled by Heinz UK after the Advertising Standards Authority received over 200 complaints.
