Federico Podeschi, a gay rights campaigner and head of the Lesbian Gay Bisexual and Transgender Excellence in Swansea, has been appointed as San Marin
The landlocked country with a population of 30,000 is the third smallest state in Europe after the Vatican and Monaco.
Podeschi, 30 a San Marinese native but who has lived in the UK for the past eleven years will work closely with the San Marino ambassador in London.
The consulate has been set up in recognition of the increased importance of Wales in world politics and culture.
