Canadian candidate thinks gays should be executed

"David Popescu gave a short speech, allegedly informing students that gays and lesbians should be killed "

An independent federal candidate in Canada is being investigated on a hate crime charge.

Canadian police are looking into an event that occurred at the Sudbury Secondary School, during which David Popescu gave a short speech, allegedly informing students that gays and lesbians should be killed.

He also blamed the current economic crisis on 'human immorality' and cited that his reasons for running for office were influenced by God and the Bible.

In a later telephone interview he reiterated his views on homosexuality:

"A young man asked me what I think of homosexual marriages and I said I think homosexuals should be executed."

The school's headmaster, in view of students' protests said:

"As an inclusive school, we respect all other opinion although we may not agree with them — and I know there were definitely some things said today that we don't agree with."

Local gay and lesbian groups have expressed concern over Popescu's comments, particularly in the light of his previous election campaign which proclaimed:

"God burnt five homosexual cities alive, including women and children, as an example of what we are supposed to do to them. Instead, our evil government gives them rights."
