HIV-positive DJ breaks probation

HIV-positive DJ under house arrest for unprotected sex
HIV-positive DJ Joshua Waldon Weaver has been put under house arrest for engaging in unprotected sex while already on probation for not revealing his HIV-positive status to three partners.
The North Carolinian had previously pleaded guilty to not declaring his HIV status when having unprotected sex with three men. He was given a suspended jail sentence and placed on probation, which terms included he must wear a condom during sexual activity.
However, the 23 year-old was arrested when Wake County Public Health officials discovered that he had contracted another sexually transmitted infection which could have been prevented by the use of a condom.
As a result the health officials informed Weaver’s probation officer that the evidence suggested he had violated his probation terms by having unprotected sex.
Weaver faces up to twenty-five days in prison if he breaks his probation terms again. Prosecutors could also ask for a two-year quarantine in a state prison hospital.
Assistant District attorney Boz Zellinger told The News & Observer:
“His behaviour hasn’t changed. We’re trying to address the callousness his actions have demonstrated… It’s not a witch hunt. It’s a desire to change his behaviour to benefit the community.”
The DJ, who works clubs in Raleigh and Wilmington, has now been placed under six-months electronically-monitored house arrest.
