A gay rights campaigner will be seeking Hillary's support for Civil Partnerships
US President Elect Barack Obama has today announced New York Senator Hillary Clinton as his new Secretary of State, and Arizona’s Governor Janet Napolitano as his Homeland Security Secretary.
Gino Meriano, a leading gay rights campaigner for same-sex families, says: “I offer my congratulations to Hillary Clinton for her new position as Secretary of State. Her appointment and commitment to equality will be a great move forward for our community.
“Hillary has always been a supporter of our rights and in anticipation of her new role I will be writing to Hillary Clinton to seek support for our proposition to introduce Civil Partnerships, supporting equality and human rights for same-sex couples across America.”
As reported previously on Pride Life Meriano, together with Philip Cotton of UnifiedVoice, is planning a new proposition for the introduction of Civil Partnerships in the state of Arizona.
Arizona recently approved Proposition 102 which states “Only a union of one man and one woman shall be valid or recognised as a marriage.”
Meriano continued: “I would also like to extend our congratulations to Janet Napolitano for her new position which is a great move forward for the people of America.”
