Gay family pictures offend Marios Matsakis

Marios Matsakis
Cypriot MEP offended by gay family poster advertising an anti-discrimination exhibition
"Incidently, it is my view that children living with gay couples are not getting the best environment for their upbringing."
Cypriot MEP Marios Matsakis felt harassed by the “gay lobby” after receiving an e-mail advertisement for an anti-discrimination exhibition.
The Cyprus Mail reported that the MEP responded to the e-mail with: “I find these pictures offensive... Please don’t send similar ones to me again.”
The exhibiton, entitled Different Families, Same Love, was designed to highlight the legal and social discrimination faced by LGBT families, however Mr. Matsakis continued:
“Incidently, it is my view that children living with gay couples are not getting the best environment for their upbringing. This is my personal opinion and I hope I am still able to hold it.”
A couple of days later, Mr Matsakis found advertisements pushed under the door to his office in Brussels, as well as plastered all over it. He has since written to the President of the European Parliament, Hans-Gert Pöttering, regarding the incident.
“Such actions do not cause me any real problem as such... I am writing to you because I strongly suspect that the homosexual lobby is most probably planning to re-initiate a campaign to allow homosexual couples to adopt children.”
The exhibiton was launched by European LGBT Rights Intergroup in coorporation with ILGA-Europeto highlight the difficulties that the LGBT community faces. The posters also offer insight into positive changes in law and exactly how they benefit LGBT families.
