"One day to wear your white knot in particular is this week is National Freedom to Marry Day on Thursday 12th February"
While couples in California face being forcibly divorced by Proposition 8, Whiteknot.org has set up a campaign to show their support for gay marriage.
It is hoped that the white knot image will raise the profile supporting lesbian and gay couples to ‘tie the knot’, as the red ribbon has done for Aids Awareness.
Last night, stars attending the Grammy Award ceremony took their opportunity to publicise the cause, with Dave Grohl of the Foo Fighters and The Eurythmics’ Dave Stewart among the celebrities to wear a white knot.
Campaigners for Whiteknot.org said:
"Whether you are gay or straight, please show your support by wearing the Knot and telling people why you are wearing it.
"Wear your White Knot to work, to school, to your place of worship. Together, we will keep the topic at the top of people's minds and keep the conversation going."
Whiteknot.org claims to have attracted over 10,000 new visitors this weekend alone, proving the cause has the support of people around the world.
One day to wear your white knot in particular is this week - which is National Freedom to Marry Week - is National Freedom to Marry Day on Thursday 12th February (13th in Los Angeles).
