Kids not allowed to learn about gay relationships
By: Nigel Robinson

King and King

Parents have taken their children out of school to prevent them learning about gay relationships

About thirty children did not attend the George Tomlinson primary school in Leytonstone, East London, during a week of special lessons focusing on non-heterosexual realtionships.

The week was part of the national LGBT History Month and, among other events, featured a gay take on Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, entitled Romeo and Julian.

Teachers also read aloud from King and King, a storybook about a handsome prince who falls in love with, and marries, another prince.

Parents who take their children out of school are liable to face prosecution.

One of the parents, Mr Latif, whose children attend the primary school, told the Daily Mail: "I didn't want my children to be learning about this.

"I found it difficult to explain topics such as homosexual relationships at such a young age. If I am faced with court action then I will just explain those are my views."

A spokesman for Waltham Forest Council said: "As part of the Borough's policy of promoting tolerance in our schools, children are taught that everyone in our society is of equal value.

"At George Tomlinson parents were invited to meet with teachers and governors several weeks ago to discuss what work would be taking place throughout the national LGBT History Month and how this work would be delivered.

"Regreattably, some parents chose to remove their children from school.

"The Council does not condone any unauthorised ansence from school and action has been taken."

However, the Council would not say the type of action taken.
