Same-sex couples to have equal adoption rights in Scotland

From September it will be easier for gay couples to adopt children in Scotland
The Scottish Government has announced a change in legislation which will put same-sex couples on an equal legal footing with heterosexual couples.
At present only one partner in a same-sex union can adopt or foster a child. The new law will enable both to adopt as a couple.
They will be able to adopt whether or not they in civil partnership, just as unmarried straight couples can do.
The Scottish Children’s Minister Adam Ingram MSP said: "This Government is clear that the most important concern is meeting the needs of the child, regardless of the potential carer's sexual orientation.
"Where adoption by a same-sex couple is the best option for a child, that route should be available.
"That's what already happens through existing laws and what this legislation strengthens."
