New guide to gay adoption

Pink Guide to Adoption
The Pink Guide to Adoption is the first book aimed at gays considering adoption
The Pink Guide has just been published by the British Association for Adoption and Fostering (BAAF).
The book is a step-by-step guide to the process of adoption from the view of both single and same-sex couples.
The BAAF will also be holding a conference to celebrate the role of gay and lesbian carers, which will offer potential gay and lesbian carers the chance to exchange views and good practice.
David Holmes, the chief executive of the BAAF, told Children and Young People Now magazine: “We recognise there is still a lot of prejudice against adoption by lesbians and gay men, which sadly has been reinforced by some sections of the media.
"Lesbian and gay carers thinking of applying to adopt may worry about the extent of prejudice within adoption agencies themselves. Such fears were once well founded, but times are changing.”
In the year up to March 2008, only ninety children were adopted by gay couples in England, compared to a total of 3,200 children being adopted. The majority of children adopted by same-sex couples went to women.
The book can be ordered from the British Association for Adoption and Fostering.
