Barack Obama has nominated an out gay woman for US attorney
The US President has chosen lesbian Jenny Durkan to become the US attorney for the Western District of Washington State.
The appointment still has to be ratified by the Senate.
Ms Durkan is one of the President’s six appointees, all of whom, according to the President, “have distinguished themselves as fair, tenacious, and respected attorneys throughout their careers in both public and private service.
Ms Durkan, who is 50 and a successful lawyer, lives with her female partner and two sons.
